Elisa, MTV reach deal to resolve months-long dispute

Finnish telecommunications company Elisa and commercial broadcaster MTV reached an agreement regarding channel distribution after a long-term dispute.
The live broadcasts of MTV3, MTV Sub and MTV Ava resumed on Friday, and customers can access the channels automatically on Elisa Viihde and Elisas cable TV service in their usual channel positions, and no action is required on their part, said Elisa in a press release. “We would like to thank our customers for their patience during this regrettable interruption.
Viewers can now once again enjoy MTVs free-to-air live content as normal.
Under the new agreement, we will work together with MTV to further develop our services and deliver an even better viewing experience,” said Sami Aalto, Business Director at Elisa.
The negotiations between Elisa and MTV concerned a broader package that included the distribution of MTVs advertising-funded TV channels on Elisas cable TV network and Elisa Viihde, the recording service for MTV channels on Elisa Viihde, and the distribution of MTVs pay-TV channels through Elisa. “Our objective has been to find a solution that ensures the wide availability of MTVs content across Elisas services while creating a sustainable foundation for developing content in the future.
We are pleased to now be building even stronger cooperation with Elisa.
We would also like to thank viewers and advertisers for their patience during the negotiations,” said Johannes Leppänen, CEO of MTV.
